Hunting with Richthofen
The Bodenschatz diaries; sixteen months of battle with JG Freiherr Von Richthofen No 1.

Content: Karl Bodenschatz was the Richthofen squadron adjutant. Originally published in 1935, this book contains a mass of revelations and new information. Nicknamed 'Richthofen's Flying Circus' by its Allied opponents, Jagdgeschwader No. 1 roamed the skies over the Western Front. For sixteen months, this Jagdgeschwader fought against a mounting tide of Allied manpower and machines, bringing down the remarkable number of 644 Allied aircraft. In his unique position as squadron adjutant, Karl Bodenschatz knew all the pilots, both famous and the not-so-famous. From the day of its founding in Marckebeke till the day of its dissolution in Aschaffenburg, Karl Bodenschatz recorded the lives and the deaths, the triumphs and the tragedies of Jagdgeschwader No. 1. His diaries were originally published in old German script as Jagd in Flanderns Himmel. Jan Hayzlett's excellent translation of his aviation classic gives us a rare glimpse of the men who were on the other side.
